Completing your application form

Applying online is quick and easy. You will receive automatic confirmation that your application has been received. You will find all the information you need to submit an application on this site.

In order to apply for a job you first need to be registered.  If you haven't previously registered to use the site, you will see the the message "if you are not already registered, then please register now". Click into the register now prompt to take you to through the registration process.

The job description

This describes the main purpose of the job and will list the tasks and duties which you will be expected to perform if you are appointed.

The person specification

This tells you what skills, values and behaviours a person must have to be able to do the job. Decisions on who to invite for the interview are made by assessing what you tell us on your application form and comparing with what we have asked for in the person specification.

Completing the application form

The application form plays a very important part in the selection process, and will be used as the basis for shortlisting you for a job. You must fill in all sections of the form, making sure the information you provide is clear and accurate. The information you provide will be treated as confidential and kept in accordance with the council's policies; it will be retained for 6 months then destroyed.

Please ensure that you submit your application form by the closing date. Applications received after this date will not be considered.

As we need the same range of information from all candidates we are not able to accept CVs in place of an application form unless otherwise stated. 

Personal details

Make sure you complete this section fully. It is important that you provide us with your e-mail address, full address, and contact details as we will need this to contact you should you be shortlisted for interview.

Any offer of employment will be subject to you providing evidence that you have the right to live and work in the UK.


Please complete details for two referees, who can cover at least 3 years. One should be your most recent employer, ideally your line manager, and/or your most recent work experience. They must not be related to you or be a friend. If you are a school/college leaver, please give us the name and address of the head teacher/tutor and also the manager of your most recent work experience placement, if applicable. Please indicate on the form if you do not want us to contact your referees unless offered the job.

Work experience / qualifications

Put your most recent work experience/qualifications first. Experience and knowledge gained through relevant voluntary work is just as important as experience gained “on–the-job”.

Education, qualification and membership of professional associations

You must ensure you provide all the information about your education and qualifications obtained, including those qualifications you are currently studying for. Please do not forget to include dates. If you are appointed, we will ask you to provide original copies of your qualifications upon joining the council.

Relevant skills & values and behaviours

This section provides an opportunity to describe your skills, values and behaviours that are relevant to this position and to detail how you meet each element of the person specification. Before completing this section, read through the job description and person specification, think carefully about how you meet the job requirements, considering your achievements and skills gained in paid and / or voluntary employment, outside interests and any other relevant activities. Ensure that you highlight any information that demonstrates your suitability for the position. This information is an important part of the selection process and should be completed by both internal and external applicants.

If the person specification contains values and behaviours, please provide evidence supported by examples how you have demonstrated each value or behaviour in the past. The example you give should outline what you have done in the past to demonstrate that value or behaviour rather than what you would do if a particular situation arose. The example may be from your current job or from an activity you have done in the past. Specify your own experience and not the general work of your office or section.

Please note: You do not have to provide an example for each behavioural indicator under the value title. One example per value is all that is required.

When completing this section of the form, try to list your examples in the order they appear in the person specification, as this will help when we are shortlisting. Do ensure you mention all relevant experience as we cannot assume anything from a job title you may have had in the past.

Applicant declaration

When applying for or being considered for a job, you must disclose if you are related to or have a close relationship with a Councillor, senior officer for the council, or Governor or senior officer of a school. In submitting the form you confirm that all the information you have given in the application form is true and accurate. Giving false information which results in your appointment to the council's service will render you liable to dismissal without notice.

What Happens Next

Once you submit your online form, you will receive an acknowledgement email. Thereafter you will be kept up to date with emails throughout the application process. Your account area will also show you the application status as well as details of other applications that you have made.
